During the day, you can embrace the outdoors with walks and bike rides at clement temperatures before putting on that extra jumper as the sun begins to set - the sunsets at Meon Springs are spectacular. Then it is time to unwind and get cosy around a crackling fire pit, wrapped in a warm blanket, as you toast marshmallows, hug a cup of hot chocolate, and share stories with friends or family.
As night falls, the sky transforms into a canvas of stars, twinkling brightly against the dark backdrop. We do not have any light pollution, so the stargazing is unparalleled. Then, it is time to retreat to your warm bed; our Mongolian Yurts and Shepherd Huts have a wood-burning stove or heating to keep you nice and toasty. We also provide plenty of extra blankets.
Five reasons to book an autumn glamping at Meon Springs
We have a special autumn offer for our clay shooting experience
Meon Springs offers clay shooting, a thrilling and fun outdoor sport everyone can enjoy. Clay shooting is a great outdoor family activity where everyone can compete on equal terms with a bit of friendly rivalry. The person you least expect will often have the best timing and hand-eye coordination. The other wonderful thing about clay shooting at Meon Springs is the beautiful scenery, with the leaves turning lovely shades of reds, russets, and gold.
We are offering one free Shoot-a-Box Session per accommodation booking during October. This session (normally £55 per person) can be booked (subject to availability) at 10.30, 12.30 and 14.30 every Saturday. To book email greg@meonsprings.com with your accommodation booking number.
Autumn is a magical time to walk and cycle at Meon Springs.
Meon Springs is a picturesque haven in autumn, with trees casting a red-golden glow and bushes bursting with vibrant berries. The crisp sound of leaves underfoot, the discovery of gleaming conkers, and the mellow warmth of the sun create a magical atmosphere. The lingering mists at dawn and dusk add to the enchantment of the season.
For a day filled with autumn colours and wildlife, visit Hinton Ampner National Trust, and experience the Dutton Estate Walk. This 4-mile walk is a stunning display of autumn colours, with an abundance of wildlife from roe deer to rare barbastelle bats. Old Winchester Hill and Queen Elizabeth Country Park, both near Meon Springs, offer breathtaking views during the autumn season. You can also walk from Meon Springs along the South Downs Way or to the nearby villages of East Meon and West Meon, both with lots of seasonal interest.
Autumn is fantastic for fly fishing
Meon Springs Fishery is renowned for being a beautiful place to fly fish: check out our five-star reviews. Here you can enjoy a fly fishing taster session, a fly fishing experience day or a private fly fishing lesson. We also run fly fishing lessons for children. Autumn is a perfect time to catch trout; the weather is comfortable, and the autumn reflections and sunsets across the lake are spectacular. During autumn, the fish are more active because the sun is lower in the sky, and the days are getting shorter. Whilst the warm weather brings on an insect hatch, which is great for the trout as this makes them feed, the water temperature will not get as high. Therefore, the warm temperature and low sun combination is perfect for fishing dry flies.
Autumn skies are outstanding for stargazing
Gather around the firepit, hug a mug of hot chocolate, and gaze up at the sky. The longer, darker evenings provide the perfect opportunity for stargazing. Clanfield Observatory, which is only a 15-minute drive away, is reputed to be one of the best-equipped amateur observatories in the UK. The Hampshire Astronomical Group operates from this location and organises open evening events (reserve your spot early to avoid disappointment).

Glamping in autumn is perfect for dogs
Autumn can be a great time to go glamping with your dog. The weather is cooler, and places are less crowded, which is ideal if you have a nervous or lead-reactive dog. Meon Springs is also close to many beaches, which will be less crowded in autumn. Both our Mongolian Yurts and Shepherd's Huts are dog-friendly. You will find lots of dog-friendly walks on the doorstep (see our Meon Springs Dog Guide).
