Originally a line of three forts was proposed to link the other 2 lines, but only Fort Fareham was built. Its interior is now a business park owned by Fareham Council and the exterior is decaying, overgrown and hidden by woods.

Ralph Harris once played in Fareham. He was supported by Atomic Kitten, who never showed up. There was also a power cut and poor Ralph was left holding the fort. His best joke was about Gosport -”How did Gosport get it’s name?”"Because when the convicts set sail to Australia, all of the pommeys on the shore waved them off and shouted “Go Sport”

.

.

.

Below are the Sky Surfing Club rules for flying at Whitewool. Please adhere to them.

Please review the following paragraphs; they apply to all members.

The site is to be used for paragliding only.

A site warden MUST be onsite at all times for flying to proceed.

A maximum of eight members, flying or not, onsite at any one time.

A maximum of eight vehicles parked. (Car sharing advised due to limited parking)

Large vehicles must use the Winchester Hill Reserve car park which is five minutes walk to the take off area. All cars must park to the South of the access stile on the off-road grass verge.

Low airtime (Red Ribbon) pilots have priority over more experienced pilots with the exception of site wardens. A maximum of two wardens (preference to coaches) is allowed to enable up to six low airtime pilots to fly and receive coaching.

All pilots must be full members of the BHPA and the Sky Surfing Club. *

Membership cards must be carried and produced if requested.

The site must not be used during any Bank Holiday.

This is to avoid build up of traffic on the minor road immediately behind the site as the public tend to ‘park up’ to watch the flying activities.

Flying may be suspended periodically through the day if excessive public attention causes traffic congestion on the adjacent road.

*Wessex, Thames Valley and the Isle of Wight members are welcome under the Reciprocal Agreement.

FLYING WILL BE SUSPENDED if overcrowding arises. Duty warden will check pilots airtime and allow red ribbon pilots to stay plus a warden/coach, this number must not exceed eight the remainder will be asked to leave the site. Should they wish to continue to fly direct them to Chalton or Mercury.

Should the problem continue the warden will close the site.

All landings must be made on the hill.

Avoid being ‘blown back’ over the road. There are no bottom landing fields outside the

perimeters of the site which has generous areas within the boundaries.

No dogs allowed

Advisory notes are listed below for information and guidance

Pilots are advised not to arrive onsite unless they know a warden will be present.

Flying can only proceed whilst a warden is present. Site’s Officer will endeavour to enlist sufficient wardens so at least one will be available on all flying days.

WARDEN DUTIES

On each visit to check the landowners website http://www.meonsprings.com/home/news-events

To ensure that this site is open for flying on the day.

Site Management- Briefings. Advice and Coaching (subject to qualification)

Coaches are NOT available for formal instruction

To ensure the site rules are adhered to .

Wardens are advised to obtain the truncated version of the site rules, print out and display at the site entrance gate. It will require a tie-on.

This sign must be removed at the end of flying.

This agreement will only stay in force if we can adhere to it.

Everyone’s co-operation is vital.

10am to 4pm – Bring the whole family (including the dog)Please email jamie@meonsprings.com if you have any useful comments or suggestions, or would like to be kept up to date with the 2011 event.

This is what they have said about previous Orvis Country Experience Days

2010 Review
The 2010 event was a huge success, with over 1500 people enjoying a beautiful day out in the country.

I would like to thank the following people.

Matthew Jackson http://yourmusicdisco.webs.com/ for providing an excellent PA system.

Hamptworth Estates http://www.hamptworthestate.co.uk/Gundogs.asp for an excellent gun dog demonstration.

The South Downs Bloodhounds http://www.southdownsbloodhounds.com/ for showing us just what Bloodhounds are all about.

And of course Orvis – www.orvis.co.uk for generously sponsoring the event.

Comments
I would like to thank all the team at Meon Springs for a really GREAT day yesterday. What a wonderful experience for my four grandchildren. When I asked what their favourite part of the day was – here were their replies.

Jack – who is 10 – said the Falconry was fantastic and he would love to see them fly (so a trip to the Falcon Conservatory is now in the planning).

James – who is 8 – enjoyed seeing the cows being milked and tasting the fresh milk. He wants to try the clay pigeon shooting next time.

Katie – who is 7 – thought the ride on the huge tractor was ‘awesome!!

Luke – who is 6 – enjoyed ‘everything’ and now wants to buy a fishing rod.

I enjoyed just seeing the kids appreciate the countryside. The event was definitely a great success – thanks to all the people running the event – from the person at the gate (where we paid for parking) to the really friendly people at the milking parlour and the tractor rides. We met some great people with two little dogs (Bluebell – a six week old puppy and her mum). Fantastic that things were reasonably priced – when multiplying by five a day out can get quite expensive. I just hope that the event retains it’s friendly and fun-filled feel.
Aileen EganI saw 3 of the excellent demos and spoke to 2 fishing organisations.

I thought that the fishing experience of catching a trout was a great idea.

It was a very pleasant day helped by the fact that the admission and food & drinks were affordably priced, unlike so many events.

Finally many thanks to the Orvis guy who happily allowed me to try out the Helios rod purely for the fun of trying a top quality rod even after I told him that I could not possibly afford one!

Well done to everyone, and I’ll certainly be back next year.
Matthew Brookbank

Our first visit which we thoroughly enjoyed and look forward to next year. A perfect day in an idyllic setting and a warm welcome from all involved. Thankyou.
Pam Symonds

“We have been to many shows around Hampshire and it’s most refreshing to find an event with so much to do at such great value”.

” Thank you and congratulations on such a great day”

Live near Petersfield or Winchester?

Here are Seven good reasons to store with us.

You can drive up to your unit inside our buildings, making loading, unloading and sorting it all out, a breeze.
.

You have 24 hour access, seven days a week, with your own key-fob to let you in to our fully alarmed and monitored building.
.

Rather than quote high and then make Lowest Price Guarantees; we give you just one price to cover everything, including insuring your valuable goods.
.

We have a wide range of unit sizes, which means you can very specifically choose the amount of space you need.
.

Our unique “out in the country” location means your only traffic problem will be the odd tractor, and because of our drive-up access many customers and removal firms find it much quicker and easier to store with us rather than in a town self-storage centre, with stairs, corridors and lifts.
.

We will help you find good, efficient removal people or best value van hire firms, making your move into storage as stress free and easy as possible.
.

Each new customer receives a Fly Fishing Experience Day voucher, which means you can go down to our lakes and enjoy some rest and relaxation after your move.

And finally, to give you the peace of mind that you have some storage guaranteed, we can reserve a unit for you (subject to availability) without any commitment, by simply giving us a call.
